Silva returned to Washington DC to work on CNN , where he worked as a producer for several television programs . He began writing his first novel, The Unlikely Spy , published in 1994. Two years later, this book The novel became a bestseller and in 1997 Silva left CNN to devote himself to literature. He currently lives in Georgetown in Washington, DC with his wife , Jamie Gangel , NBC reporter , whom he met in the Persian Gulf , and their twin sons : Lily and Nicholas .
