The Birth of Love and Rockets

From the introduction (an impassioned defence of comic book art as an artform) by Carter Shulz, through two long Jaime "barrio" stories, some Gilbert odds and sods, and his early masterpiece "Bem", and even including a rare piece by brother Mario. This book is a fascinating, and never dull view of the genesis of the Love and Rockets series. Palomar makes its first appearance (although late on) and Jaime establishes his core characters. A must for fans of the brothers' work, although the uninitiated may find 'Blood of Palomar' or 'Flies on the Ceiling' to be a more impressive introduction. Always with the quality though.
