Outstanding. A real treat of a book.

Gilbert Hernandez 'Palomar' stories are a rare treat in the comic form. Generally they are told as short stories, focusing on the lives, loves and adventures of the various inhabitants of the mythical Mexican/Central American village Palomar.The women are beautiful, hot tempered and complex. The guys are generally odd both in looks and character. Almost everyone is a little bit crazy sometimes, especially if they are in love.Luba and Chelo are the female leads for most of the story. Luba owns the bath-house and cinema and has children by several fathers but has never married. Chelo used to give baths, but has become Sheriff instead.The stories weave around this pair and others in a magical and realistic way. The storytelling is subtle and sublime, though with the odd flash of violence or nudity where the story demands it.This edition is hard-bound, with a neat dust-cover, and contains all the Palomar stories under one very well presented cover.All in this is one of the best comic book related reads out there and if you like graphic storytelling as a form, there is no excuse for not owning this beautiful book.
