Thrilling despite being a little far-fetched

A well researched and mostly well crafted novel that has its readers on the edge of their seats almost from page one. Cleverly written, especially the first half, and highly original. A Matter of Degrees takes the lid off the Freemasons and other male-dominated groups and takes them into a science fiction genre. However, I felt a little let-down by the ending - without giving it away, suffice to say some aspects were over-ambitious and clumsily envisaged. It might have been better to leave more to the imagination than some of the devices in the final show-down. That said I am proud to have the book on my shelves and it was a good read. I felt as if I had lost something when I finished it - which is always a good sign.
